Cops Have Coffee With Southwestern Students

First published in the Oct. 14 print issue of the San Marino Tribune.

Seven of San Marino’s detectives and officers recently made their way into a crowd of Southwestern students buzzing with excitement to welcome them on National Coffee With a Cop Day.
Not only were iced coffees lined up ready for student government to distribute to their guests, the San Marino Police Department, but fresh, sugary donuts were also served.
All across the quad, students and members of the SMPD were bustling with conversation. Several students were even treated to a lesson on the different tools officers carry.
Cpl. Wong demonstrated and explained how to use a Taser, pepper spray, baton and hand cuffs, answering any questions students had. Students also watched a video of Officer Lopez during training, showing students how painful Tasers and pepper sprays can actually be.
“Thank you to Detectives Cordischi, Hernandez and Golden, Officers Peña, Lopez, Liev and Cpl. Wong for visiting and enjoying some very well-deserved treats,” the school said in a statement. “Southwestern Academy is grateful to the wonderful San Marino Police Department for keeping our community safe. Southwestern Academy is excited to see them again next year!”
