By Mitch Lehman

San Marino High School’s boys’ varsity swim team finished second in the Rio Hondo League finals and 4th in CIF Division II, and if it weren’t for rival La Cañada, you could ratchet those finishes up one.
Sophomore Scott Farley won the CIF championship in the 500 meter freestyle with a time of 4:32:27. He also nailed down a 4th place finish in the 200 meter freestyle.
Junior James Gillette grabbed 3rd in the 200 meter freestyle in 1:41:89 and 6th in the 100 meter freestyle with a clocking of 47:92.
Junior Tim Lin finished 7th in the 500 meter freestyle in 4:39:41 and also earned a tenth place finish in the 100 meter backstroke, clocking a 53:72
Senior Kevin Tovar claimed 6th in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 52:80. Tovar won the 100 meter butterfly at the Rio Hondo League meet a week earlier.
San Marino also captured 5th place in the boys’ 4 x100 meter freestyle relay in 3:13:57 courtesy of Messrs. Farley, Gillette, Lin and Tovar.
Daniel Adamczyk also went to the CIF meet and had good swims in the 200 meter individual medley and the 500 meter freestyle, but didn’t place.
The boys’ medley relay team of Lin, Alex Phillips, Tovar and Gillette finished 14th,
After finishing third in the Rio Hondo League, the Lady Titans put together an impressive effort at the CIF meet in Long Beach finishing 12th overall in Division II.
Once again, the medley relay team of Jenny Tyler, Emily Adamczyk, Berklie Oscarson and Vivian Hong set a new school record to finish 7th in 1:51:53 after a convincing performance in winning the Rio Hondo League championship a week earlier, setting a new league mark along the way.
Adamczyk, a junior, finished fifth in the 200 meter individual medley at the CIF meet with a time of 2:05:05 – a new school record. She also penned a new record in the 100 meter breastroke in a time of 1:04:91.
Oscarson was eleventh in the 200 IM in a time of 2:11:96 and also finished 7th in the 100 meter backstroke in a time of 59:54
The Lady Titans’ 4 x 100 meter relay team of Cindy Hsieh, Adamczyk, Oscarson and Hong finished 18th in 3:46:20.
At the Rio Hondo League meet, held on May 2 at Pasadena City College, Adamczyk won the 200 IM and the 100 breastroke and Oscarson won the championship on the 100 meter backstroke.
“I think the season went incredibly well for both the boys and the girls,” said Coach Mark Barr. “The boys find themselves in a position to win CIF next year and the girls could easily go into the top five.”
