    President Barack Obama on Wednesday slammed what he called a “minority” in the US Senate for blocking legislation that would have expanded background checks on those seeking to buy guns.

    A federal appeals panel ruled today that the government must provide bond hearings for arriving non-citizens, certain criminal non- citizens and detained asylum seekers who have been held in the Southland for more than six months in order to determine whether continued detention is warranted.

    A federal appellate panel reversed fraud and money laundering convictions against a now-jailed former South Gate treasurer and a local businessman, sending the case back to a lower court for new proceedings.
