• Firefighter Service in Arcadia

ARCADIA (CNS) – A service for firefighter Mike Herdman, whose body was found in Los Padres Forest in Ventura County after a two-week search, was scheduled to be held in Arcadia today.

Herdman lived in Orange County but served with the Arcadia Fire Department, which will host today’s service at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center on the campus of Arcadia High School on Campus Drive.

The service was scheduled to start at 11 a.m. the fire department said.

Herdman, 36, went missing after dark on Friday June 13, while hiking with a friend in a remote area of Los Padres Forest. He apparently was chasing after his dog, which fell. He was found two weeks later after an intensive ground and air search that included the use of remote-controlled drones.

A coroner found that Herdman, who left behind a wife and daughter, died after a fall from a cliff.

Firefighters from San Marino, San Gabriel and South Pasadena raised $17,000 for Herdman’s family during a two-hour fundraiser Monday night.

A private reception for family members will follow today’s memorial service.
