• San Marino Wins CIF Division II Tennis Championship


    The San Marino High School girls’ varsity tennis team defeated Anaheim Canyon this afternoon by a final score of 11-7 to win their fourth CIF Diviaion II tennis title in the last five years.

    “This is a good one,” said head Coach Melwyn Pereira. “At the beginning of the season we didn’t feel this was a possibility but the girls worked so hard. I am happy for them.

    “This is for you,” Pereira said when handed the plaque, immediately delivering it to his co-captains.

    Monique Gandawidjaja &Vivian Le scored the clinching points at first doubles, capping an afternoon during which the duo won all three sets. Second singles Aliki Kvitne & Emma Tam also swept their opponents. Maddie Schmidt & June Lee won a hard-fought set to cap the doubles scoring.

    First singles player Devon Jack went 2-1 to lead the singles.
