• Local Girl Scouts Continuing to Strike Gold

Olivia WooOlivia Woo worked with Club Twenty One on North Lake Avenue in Pasadena, where she taught young women the skill of recognizing the names and values of each coin and dollar as her Gold Award project.

Olivia has always enjoyed working with children and math is a subject she has always enjoyed in school. She began her scouting career as a member of Troop 1011.

Olivia has served as a volunteer at Twilight Camp and achieved both the Bronze and Silver Awards. She is the daughter to Tommy and Suk-yin and will be a junior this fall at Pasadena Polytechnic where she participates in swimming, water polo, tennis and school musicals. Olivia will spend part of the summer at a high-adventure camp in New Mexico with Venturing Crew.

As an athlete, Kelly enjoys combining physical exercise with community service. She identified the opportunity to design and conduct a curriculum for 5th graders in the Pasadena Unified LEARNS program for her Gold Award which included games, self-esteem exercises and negotiating skills.

Through the summer, Kelly worked with groups of students to assess their favorite activities and create and provide a laminated guide for volunteers for year-round use at PUSD after-school programs. Kelly enjoyed designing the activities with the many children for whom English was their second language.

Kelly, a sophomore at Pasadena Polytechnic School is the daughter of Chris and Katie Poole from La Cañada.

    Hana Svitek

Hana Svitek’s Gold Award project – ‘Special Toys for Special Kids’ – gave special needs students attending College View School in Glendale new activity boxes, raising funds to provide resources with greater variety.

Now the students have the opportunity to work on their hand-eye coordination by sorting, matching and completing many skills using an assortment of toys and other objects.

Hana has been an avid Girl Scout since second grade, completing the Bronze and Silver Awards.

A junior at Polytechnic School, Hana plays on both the varsity water polo and softball teams. She will work with students as an assistant teacher for the Poly summer school program and will be a peer mentor next year.
