• San Marino High Alum Kristine Penner and Steven Klein Are Wed

KristineStevenWedding-226horizDr. & Mrs. Clifford Penner announce the marriage of their daughter, Kristine Penner, San Marino High School alum, to Steven Klein, son of Dr. Rona Klein and Dr. Steven Klein, both of Boston, Massachusetts.

Steven and Kristine were married on September 2, 2012. The Penners’ tennis court – rendered a sacred space through set and lighting design – welcomed 300 guests who were ushered to their seats by junior ushers: Kevin Penner, Matthew Stellato, Andrew Penner & Zach Stellato, nephews of the bride; Micah Martens, cousin of the bride; and Zevan Shuster & Ethan Johnson, cousins of the groom.

The ceremony, officiated by Dr. Neil Clark Warren and Rabbi Mordecai Finley, incorporated Scripture readings, meaningful customs, and classical music performed by both a chamber orchestra under the direction of Dr. Duane Funderburk and The Chanteurs singers, directed by Michelle Jensen.

The bride, in a champagne silk Orchidea Duchesse satin modified A-line Jin Wang gown, was attended by her sister Julene Stellato, sister-in-law Carrie Penner, cousin Camille Martens, groom’s sister Sarah Klein, and friends: SMHS graduate Anna-Maria Muñoz; Stanford friends Elizabeth Spaulding, Alyson Ein, McKenna Michel, Jenny Abramson, and Angelika Rampal; and fellow Ob/Gyn Mya Zapata. The bridal party wore steel-colored matte taffeta floor-length gowns. Junior attendants, who wore opal silky taffeta floor-length gowns, were the bride’s nieces and cousin: Karinn Stellato, Rachel Penner, Ashley Penner, and Anastasia Martens. Flower Girl and Ring Bearer were Kate and Michael Spaulding. The bride and her attendants carried summer garden bouquets of lilies, roses, and natural accents by Margit Holakoui.

The groom wore a grey bespoke suit by Martin Greenfield and was attended by his long-time friend Ron Avni, brother-in-law Alex Macfarlane, bride’s brother Greg Penner, bride’s brother-in-law John Stellato; Yale friends: Tyson Belanger, Rob Geary, Seth Gordon, Will McLemore, Itamar Moses, and Tyler Wilkins; and fellow actors Ryan Johnston and Jason Landau.

After the ceremonial vows, blessings, pronouncement, and recessional, the bride, groom, and wedding party retired to the Penners’ home and the guests filled the garden, while the tennis court was transformed into an elegant dinner and dance space, with shimmering candle light and tree screens. John Stellato announced the wedding party as they entered the backyard and joined the guests for the cocktail hour.

At sunset, Steven and Kristine led the guests to the dance floor to dance to the music of the band BLACKLIST (West Coast Music) under a canopy of twinkle lights. Delectable four-course tasting menus – “bold vegetarian,” “adventurous carnivore,” or “conservative carnivore” – were served ballet style by Heirloom LA, interspersed with toasts and dancing. At 11:30pm, the guests lined both sides of the Penners’ driveway to enjoy warm gluten-free chocolate chip cookies and milk while cheering the bride and groom’s departure in a vintage Rolls Royce (courtesy of George Keyvanian Limo Service).

Steven, a graduate of Yale University, is an actor and producer who founded and runs Firefly Theater & Films. He also founded Firefly Fundraising, a consulting firm that serves nonprofits across the US. Kristine, a gynecologic oncologist at UC Irvine Medical Center is a graduate of Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco Medical School, UCLA Ob/Gyn Residency and UCLA/Cedars-Sinai Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship.

Kristine and Steven enjoyed a honeymoon in the French Alps and the beaches of Mallorca, Spain. They are now living in Silver Lake, California.
