LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will host dinner at the Getty House tonight for the crown prince of Belgium, who is in Los Angeles on an economic mission.
Prince Philippe and his delegation of economy and trade ministers will break bread and exchange gifts with the mayor at the evening shindig.
The 53-year-old prince is part of a group of about 400 Belgians, most of them representing Belgian companies, visiting California to negotiate business contracts. His father, King Albert II, 78, may abdicate as soon as July 21, according to published reports.
Philippe last visited California in 2003, but he’s no stranger to the Golden State, having attended graduate school at Stanford, earning a master’s in political science in 1985. He and his 40-year-old wife, Princess Mathilde, have four children. He is also scheduled to make stops in San Francisco and San Diego.
