    Cooling centers will be open across the Southland today as a heat wave descends on the region, giving residents a place to escape rising temperatures that are expected to hit the triple digits in some areas.

    The public is reminded about the following road closures and other event information for the Pasadena Half-Marathon happening from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 30, 2013. Event includes a half marathon and 10k & 5k runs followed by a post-race festival at Pasadena City College. About 3,500 participants are expected to participate.

    The Rose Bowl, considered America’s Stadium, will host the largest fireworks show of its storied history on the 4th of July. Thousands of special effects fireworks will be launched from inside and outside the stadium as part of AmericaFest™, a daylong entertainment extravaganza featuring Kenny G and the Mariachi Divas.

    The festivities of San Gabriel’s Kid’s Day and Fourth of July Parade will unfold on Thursday, July 4 in the historic San Gabriel Mission District. The community is invited to participate in this family-friendly event, which features a patriotic parade, BBQ lunch, community booths, and picnic activities. San Gabriel’s Kid’s Day and Fourth of July Parade are sponsored by the City of San Gabriel, San Gabriel Library, and local organizations and businesses.
