• SMFD Promotes Two, Adds One at Ceremony

    by Mitch Lehman

The San Marino Fire Department announced recent promotions and a new hiring yesterday morning, replete with proud parents, supportive spouses and a delightful brigade of bouncing babies that guaranteed an appropriately light tone.

After sixteen years with the department, Mark Dondanville received a promotion to Division Chief from Fire Captain, a position he held for the past 2-1/2 years.

Thirteen-year veteran Nick Meza advanced to Fire Captain and Sam Benites was introduced as a new Firefighter/Paramedic following a four-month training program with the SMFD.

The position changes became available when former Division Chief Rick Mayhew – who was in attendance at Wednesday’s proceedings – was named Fire Chief for the City of Upland a few months ago.

“The promotion of Mark and Nick and the hiring of Sam guarantees that the citizens of San Marino will continue to receive the finest service available,” said San Marino Fire Chief Jim Frawley. “We are fully staffed and all our personnel have the highest level of education in both medical assistance and fire protection. We have high standards and are dedicated to the community.”
