• Pasadena Jazz Club Leaves Old Town on High Note

Following a successful seven year run at the corner of Raymond and Green, redwhite+bluezz, Old Pasadena’s premiere destination for live jazz, fine wine and cutting edge American cuisine, will close its doors for good at the end of day Sunday February 24, 2013.

To celebrate redwhite+bluezz’ remarkable mix of live jazz, great food and epic wine, they’ve cooked up special events featuring all aspects of the redwhite+bluezz experience. The remaining schedule Vener and his staff have come up with is

    • Tuesday, 2/19—Louis Van Taylor Duo
    • Wednesday, 2/20—Wine Down Wednesday: half off all bottles of wine; the Brazilian sounds of the Robert Kyle Duo
    • Thursday, 2/21—Brother Yusef’s Deep Fried Organic Fattback Blues
    • Friday, 2/22—The Ryan Cross Experience
    • Saturday, 2/23—Jacques Lesure Trio
    • Sunday, 2/24—Brunch & All That Jazz with Brother Yusef

“It’s bittersweet,” said owner André Vener as he contemplates the past and future of the institution he created.  “redwhite+bluezz was a phenomenal dream that turned into a highly-regarded and successful reality.  Traditions were born here; memories made.  As everyone knows, redwhite+bluezz is not just an award-winning jazz club and restaurant, it’s an experience.  An experience, I am pleased to announce, that will continue to live on once we close.”

So committed to the concept, staff and patrons, Vener has finalized negotiations with a prestigious restaurant group that will follow in the successful footsteps of the original redwhite+bluezz.

Vener is passing the torch, blazing, to Art Silveri and Dave Morgan from Playhouse Restaurant Group and Phil Thyen, the new General Manager.  And with that torch comes a bulletproof master plan of redwhite+bluezz gold standard for success including rights to the name, concept, secret recipes, musician roster and more.

“I am honored to hand redwhite+bluezz over to such a remarkable group of gentleman.  I look of forward to its reincarnation,” continued Vener of the new establishment that will also be located in Pasadena and employ many of the current staff.  “The group is equally passionate about everything that makes redwhite+bluezz redwhite+bluezz. I trust they will continue to respect and enhance the redwhite+bluezz experience and culture.  I will be found there often either at the bar, having dinner or a spectacular brunch, listening to live jazz and appreciating all that redwhite+bluezz has to offer with a fresh and well-deserved perspective.”

Among its many distinctions, redwhite+bluezz enjoys a record number of awards and a host Pasadena Weekly’s Best of Pasadena honors seven years in a row including Best Restaurant, Best Music Venue and Best Wine List. redwhite+bluezz  also recently won two top honors during  Pasadena’s Cheeseburger Week competition and boasts an enthusiastic and consistent four star reviews on Yelp.

Vener, a partner in the ever-popular Dog Haus, will be dividing his time between building upon Dog Haus’ success and producing Cal Phil’s 2013 summer season.    Vener worked alongside his father Maestro Victor Vener for a decade as CEO of Cal Phil prior to opening redwhite+bluezz and has remained an integral part of the team.

Most importantly, now that his redwhite+bluezz “baby” is independent, Vener plans to spend as much time as possible with his new “baby girl,” 16 month old Ava Ann.
