• House of Former L.A. City Attorney Set Aflame

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – At least four people were apparently hurt when the residence of former City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo burned in the Wilshire Park area of Los Angeles today, according to authorities and witnesses.

Delgadillo, 52, said he awoke to fire alarms and tried to battle the fire with a garden hose, NBC4 reported. He was reportedly taken to a hospital by paramedics.

City firefighters said they could not confirm those reports, or the identity of the homeowner and injured people.

The two-story house at 800 S. Windsor Blvd. was nearly gutted by flames. It was near the intersection of 8th Street, just south of Wilshire Boulevard, and was reported at 2:52 a.m., according to a fire department dispatcher.

A knockdown was declared at 3:08 a.m., according to the dispatcher.

A video news photographer at the scene told City News Service a father rescued his wife, three children and one of two dogs from the fire.

According to the news photographer, the father was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the rescue.

Paramedics told dispatchers that the mother and at least two of the children also went to the hospital. It appeared the mother was suffering from smoke inhalation, but it was unclear whether any of the children were injured.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation. No damage estimate was available.

Delgadillo left the City Attorney office to run in the Democratic primary to become state Attorney General, but lost to San Francisco City/County Attorney Kamela Harris in the 2010 primary election. Since then, he has been chief executive officer of the Los Angeles County Medical Association.
