• Punking Ashton Kutcher Not a Good Idea

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A 12-year-old boy accused of making prank calls that sent a large police contingent to the home of actor Ashton Kutcher in October and then to a Wells Fargo Bank branch a week later was scheduled to be arraigned today on four felony charges.

The boy, whose name was being withheld due to his age, was arrested in December and charged Thursday with two felony counts each of making false bomb threats and computer intrusion.

On Oct. 3, police responded en masse to Kutcher’s Hollywood Hills home after receiving a report that people were inside the home with guns and explosives, and some victims had been shot. The call turned out to be a hoax. Kutcher was not home at the time, and the actor posted a picture on Twitter from the set of “Two and a Half Men.”

According to the District Attorney’s Office, a similar call on Oct. 10 sent police to a Wells Fargo branch on Wilshire Boulevard.

When he was arrested, police said the boy may be linked to other so- called “swatting” hoaxes, which involve prank calls to police reporting a crime in progress at a particular location, with the intent of drawing a major response from police, including a SWAT team.

Swatting calls in recent months have sent police to the homes of celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
