• Robert De Niro to be Honored at TCL Chinese Theater


    HOLLYWOOD (CNS) – Robert De Niro will press his hands into wet cement Monday at the venerable Chinese-themed theatre built by Sid Graumann in Hollywood.

    De Niro is up for a Academy Award for his supporting role in “Silver Linings Playbook,” and won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in in 1974 for “The Godfather: Part 2″ and in the Best Actor statue in 1980 for “Raging Bull.”

    De Niro was born in 1943 and has starred in films including “Mean Streets,” “Taxi Driver,” “The Deer Hunter,” and “Cape Fear.”

    Now known as the “TCL Chinese Theater,” and owned by a Chinese electronics firm, the theater’s courtyard has been the scene of handprint/footprint ceremonies since it opened in 1927, with the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille’s “The King of Kings.”

    The ceremony is set for 9:45 a.m. Monday at the theater, 6925 Hollywood Blvd.
