LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Chloe Sutton of Mission Viejo won a silver medal today in the women’s 400 meter freestyle at the 2012 FINA Swimming World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, while Anthony Ervin of Valencia and Jessica Hardy of Long Beach won bronze medals.

Sutton was timed in four minutes, 1.2 seconds, .02 behind the gold medal winner, Melanie Costa Schmid of Spain. Lauren Boyle of New Zealand was third in 4:01.24.

“Wow. That was so fun!” Sutton wrote on her Twitter account. “So proud of my medal. I love standing on the podium with Melanie and Lauren. They’re both such amazing girls.”

The 20-year-old Sutton won a bronze medal in the women’s 800 freestyle Thursday.

Sutton was 22nd in the women’s 10,000-meter open water race in the 2008 Olympics and had the 10th fastest time in the preliminaries of the women’s 400 freestyle in the 2012 Olympics.

Ervin, the gold medalist in the men’s 50 freestyle in the 2000 Olympics, won a bronze medal in the men’s 50 freestyle in 20.99, trailing Vladimir Morozov of Russia (20.55) and France’s Florent Manaudo (20.88).

Hardy was part of the U.S. team that won the bronze medal in the women’s 400 medley relay, the night’s final event. She finished seventh in the women’s 100 freestyle and qualified for Saturday’s final in the women’s 100 breaststroke earlier today.

Tom Shields of Huntington Beach qualified for Saturday’s final in the men’s 50 butterfly by setting an American record of 22.58.
