• Chau Defeats Lin For 49th District Seat; What Ballot Initiatives Passed?


    SGV – With all precincts reporting, Ed Chau defeated Matthew Lin for the 49th District Assembly seat. The Democrat and small business owner received almost 49,000 votes, compared to 37,504 for Lin.

    Chau received 56.6% of the vote to Lin’s 43.4%. All precincts have reported.

    Prop. 30 – Yes; temporary taxes to fund education approved

    Prop. 31 – No; government reforms not thrilling to voters

    Prop. 32 – No; favors unions over corporations

    Prop. 33 – No; auto insurance changes rejected by voters

    Prop. 34 – No; Californians not ready to give up the death penalty

    Prop. 35 – Resounding yes; increases criminal penalties for human trafficking

    Prop. 36 – Yes, Californians support easing Three Strikes law

    Prop. 37 – Large agriculture companies who warned of raising food prices get voters’ attention

    Prop. 38 – This was defeated quite handily.

    Prop. 40 – No, losing by a wide margin (redistricting)
