• SMUSD Tops API Scores in State Once Again

    by Winston Chua

SAN MARINO – API growth scores released late last week revealed that San Marino Unified School District is tops in the state among unified school districts in not only Los Angeles County but also the entire state of California, according to the California Department of Education.

Carver Elementary, Valentine Elementary, Huntington Middle School and San Marino High all hit marks of 940 or higher, with HMS hitting 967. Students take the test in the spring and growth scores are revealed in the fall each year.

Plans are in the works to harmonize the state accountability model of student testing with the federal model. API scores help parents, students, teachers and administrators determine if students know the information they need to know at the grade in which they’re expected to know it.
