The violence occurred at a Shakey’s restaurant at 1955 S. Atlantic Blvd. at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported. Patrick Ortega, 25, of Monterey Park, died at the scene.

Jose Salas, 22, of Bakersfield was arrested Sunday, the Sheriff’s Department reported. Salas was booked on suspicion of murder and being held without bail.

“Initially, witnesses at the scene led investigators to believe the death was caused by gunshot wounds, but after the body was recovered and inspected by the coroner, it was discovered (that) the victim was stabbed multiple times,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. A knife was recovered at the scene.
