• Brush Fire in Rustic Canyon Extinguished

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A brush fire that broke out in Rustic Canyon today and threatened to spread into  Topanga State Park has been doused, Los Angeles fire officials said.   About 50 firefighters were dispatched to the 3000 block of Rustic Canyon Road at 12:28 p.m., a fire department spokesman said. By about 2 p.m., the fire had blackened about 7 acres, but no structures were in harm’s way immediately, he said.

The blaze was reported as a knockdown shortly after 4:40 p.m.

Five water-dropping helicopters were assigned to the fire, and two county-leased SuperScooper planes were dispatched.

How it started was not immediately known.

About 100 people were at Camp Josepho, near the top of the Sullivan Canyon fire road, but they were not immediately threatened, according to the fire department.
