• Arcadia Unified School District Brings Paul Anka to NEW Performing Arts Center

ARCADIA – The Arcadia Unified School District recently officially announced the opening to their new Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 27, with “An Evening With Anka.”

“The creation of this performing arts center and auditorium had been a dream of the Arcadia community for 50 years now,” said Arcadia Supt. Joel Shawn. “And I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to bring in Paul, with his classic, timeless style of music.”

Anka is a client of Arcadia Mayor Pro Tem Mickey Segal. The legendary artist popularized such hits as “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” “My Way,” “Diana,” “You’re Having My Baby” and “You Are My Destiny.”

The center is located on the Arcadia High School campus and measures 40,000-square feet with 1,200 seats. It is not just for students, but for the San Gabriel Valley community as a whole. The modern glass and brick architectural center serves as an inclusive hub for all the performing arts.

Measure I monies, which were made available to the district after voters passed the initiative in 2006, allowed AUSD to take advantage of some $20 million that makes this opening possible. Shawn said he hopes to raise several million more in the next five years to create an endowment for the arts which will help maintain the new facility.

The exclusive Paul Anka opening night fundraiser/concert is presented by the Arcadia school district and the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, established to support the Performing Arts Center.
