• Firefighters Extinguish Pasadena Arson Fire

PASADENA (CNS) – Firefighters today put out an apparent arson fire in a Pasadena carport that caused $200,000 worth of damage, a fire official said.

Two vehicles were destroyed and three others were heavily damaged in the 1:58 a.m. fire, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Fire Department.

“It could have been worse, but thanks to a passerby calling 911, we were on the scene quickly to avoid the fire spreading,” said Derderian. Firefighters sent to the 600 block of South Marengo Avenue had the fire out within 20 minutes of their arrival, she said.

About 20 residents were temporarily evacuated, she said, and no injuries were reported.

The carport sustained some minor damage. An adjacent business also sustained some minor damage.

Investigators would not say what led them to believe that the fire was intentional, Derderian said.
