• 405 Freeway Will Be Closed Tonight

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – In what could be considered a warm-up for “Carmageddon II,” the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed tonight through the Sepulveda Pass, and a northbound closure is on tap for next weekend.

Beginning at 11 p.m., the southbound freeway will be closed from the Ventura (101) Freeway to Getty Center Drive. The freeway is expected to reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday, according to Metro, which is overseeing the 405 Freeway construction project.

The northbound freeway lanes will be closed during the same hours on Sept. 15-16. The Mulholland bridge over the freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Sept. 14 to 8 a.m. Sept. 16.

The closures are being planned to allow Metro’s contractor to prepare for the upcoming demolition of the remaining half of the Mulholland bridge. The contractor will remove the supporting wood structures from the newly constructed south side of the bridge, and will adjust the Mulholland alignment and elevation to conform with the new bridge, according to Metro.

“Carmageddon II,” when all lanes of the freeway will be closed in both directions through the pass, is scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 29-30.
