    LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The California Highway Patrol today reported one traffic-related death on Los Angeles County highways during the first 72 hours of this year’s three-day Labor Day weekend.

    The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and concluded today, Monday, at 6 a.m. During that same reporting period last year, there were three traffic-related fatalities in Los Angeles County, according to the CHP.

    Statewide, there were 11 fatalities in the first 72 hours of the Labor Day weekend, compared with 10 during the same period in 2011.

    In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 259 motorists on suspicion of drunken driving, up from last year’s total of 227. Statewide, the CHP reported 960 DUI arrests, in comparison with last year’s 1,008.
