• APU School of Music Presents Concert in Private Location

    SAN GABRIEL – On Friday, July 27, Azusa Pacific University School of Music presented an artist recital featuring violinist Vladimir Machado Rufino with pianist Hannah Yi.

    Also included in the event were Alex Russell, Clifton Antoine and Maria Crosby from the studio of Charles Stegeman.

    Artists performed works from Mozart, Martinu, Villa-Lobos, Tchaikovsky, Lekeu and Franck. Those who came to listen to the performance showed their appreciation for the music with standing ovations and calls for encores.

    Ruffino, born in Rio de Janeiro, gave his final performance before he and his wife will move to Canada. He is both a graduate of APU as well as the Federal University of Paraiba. He is both a chamber musician and orchestra member, appearing on many stages including the Walt Disney Concert Hall and venues in various countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Germany, France and the United States.

    Yi started playing the piano at age 4. She began her piano studies under Ok Ja Hong, Ick-Choo and Hae-Young Moon. She has won competitions at all levels, including the Glendale Piano Competition, L.A. Bach Concerto Festival Competition, Russian National Piano Competition and much, much more.
