LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was ranked as the
fifth-best hospital in the nation and the best in California and Los Angeles by
U.S. News & World Report, which released its annual medical center rankings
    today.
The Westwood hospital earned high national rankings in 14 categories,
including cancer, gynecology, psychiatry, geriatrics, nephrology, ophthalmology
    and urology.
The hospital was the only California medical center to crack the
magazine’s list of top medical centers in the nation, and it was rated the best
in the western United States for the 23rd straight year.
“Our purpose is to heal humankind, one patient at a time,” said Dr.
David Feinberg, president and CEO of the UCLA Health System and UCLA associate
vice chancellor for health sciences. “Our team of dedicated doctors, nurses
and staff has a steadfast commitment to ensure that every patient we see is
treated like a member of our own family.”
Among Los Angeles-area hospitals, the hospital ranked first, followed by
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Keck Hospital of USC, Huntington Memorial
Hospital in Pasadena, UCI Medical Center in Orange, Kaiser Permanente Los
Angeles Medical Center, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach,
City of Hope in Duarte, USC Norris Cancer Hospital and Rancho Los Amigos
    National Rehabilitation Center in Downey.
Cedars-Sinai also ranked second statewide, with Keck Hospital placing
sixth and Huntington Memorial placing eighth.
“While we are grateful for this recognition, it is the dedication and
commitment to quality patient care that our talented physicians and staff
undertake each day that makes Cedars-Sinai unique,” said Thomas M. Priselac,
    Cedars-Sinai’s president/CEO.
The magazine and research partner RTI International surveyed nearly
10,000 specialists and went through data on death rates, patient safety and
    hospital reputation, among other factors.
The top hospitals overall in the United States were, in order,
Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore; the
Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.; the Cleveland Clinic; and Ronald Reagan UCLA
    Medical Center.
