• Happy Birthday America!

SAN MARINO – Today, San Marino residents and neighbors took part and will take part in celebrating America’s birthday, known as both Independence day and as the Fourth of July.

This morning near San Marino City Hall, about 700-800 people gathered to take part in the J.P. Blecksmith Memorial 5K, a challenging 3.1 mile loop held in honor and in the memory of  Marine 2nd Lieutenant J.P. Blecksmith, who died in Iraq and grew up in San Marino. The majority of the proceeds and other donations go to support a memorial scholarship fund established in his honor at his high school alma mater, Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada .

On this day, in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted, as was independence from the Great Britain.

Enjoy the celebrations all around, whether you are a part of the Lacy Park celebration, the Rose Bowl celebration, the South Pasadena celebration or any other party commemorating the national day of the United States. Cheers!
