• Newport Fire in Pasadena

PASADENA (CNS) – Neighbors aided firefighters in the rescue of six birds
and three dogs today a Pasadena home with a burning attic, a fire official
Some sort of construction was underway at the home in the 1900 block of
Newport Avenue prior to the fire. It was not immediately known if the
construction ignited the blaze, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire
Neighbors called the fire department, which was dispatched to the scene
about 1:20 p.m. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, neighbors were able to
rescue some of the birds and dogs left inside the home, where the homeowner was
    out of town, she said.
“We were fortunate that we were able to get there within five
minutes,” Derderian said. Firefighters had the fire out within 20 minutes of
    their arrival.
“We’ll be on the scene for several hours, going room to room to make
sure there aren’t any flare ups,” she told City News Service.
