The Metro Goldline Foothill Extension Construction Authority recently announced quite a bit of news. Metro has added a significant amount to the total cost estimates of various projects, including the I-405 Corridor, the Westside Subway, the West Santa Ana Branch Corridor and the Gold Line Eastside Extension.
However, it notably has not included any significant updates to the completion of the Measure R project as defined in AB1446. This means that the “Pasadena to Claremont” extension, which relies upon the extension of higher tax rates for an indefinite period of time, is meeting some resistance.
Here are some specifics:
Metro added $1.65 billion for the I-405 Corridor, nearly $1 billion was added for the Westside Subway, $500 million was added for the West Santa Ana Branch Corridor and just under $200 million was added for the Gold Line Eastside Extension.
In November 2008, Measure R was approved by an amazing two-thirds majority, committing a projected $40 billion to traffic relief and transportation upgrades throughout the county over the next 30 years.
