• Stamp Depicting Huntington Library Painting To Be Issued

SAN MARINO (CNS) – A stamp depicting the Edward Hopper painting “The
Long Leg,’ which is part of the collection of The Huntington Library in San
    Marino, will be issued Wednesday.
First day of issue cancellations, with a commemorative postmark
depicting a sailboat, will be available from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. outside the
Huntington Bookstore. Hopper postcards, notecards and prints that can be
stamped and postmarked as collectible keepsakes will also be available for
purchase. Admission to the library is not required.
“The Long Leg,’ painted in oil on canvas around 1935, depicts a boat
sailing against the wind near Provincetown, Mass. It also includes Cape Cod’s
    Long Point Lighthouse.
“The Long Leg’ was acquired by The Huntington Library in the late
1970s as a gift from the Virginia Steele Scott Foundation and made its debut in
1984 as one of the works that established its American art collection.
The stamp is the 10th in the American Treasures series, which began in
2001 and is intended to showcase works of American fine art and crafts.
