• Los Tigres AYSO Champs!

This just in, Los Tigres, the GU14 team from AYSO Region 14 won the YDP (Youth Development Program) AYSO Spring Soccer League Wednesday night.

It has been a spring of success. AYSO Region 214 team Los Tigres continued its spring success in 2011 this weekend with a tournament win in Glendale, beating some very good teams. Their last soccer game was scheduled for Wednesday night at the Muir High School football field. The team of girls under 14 nearly squeaked out another tournament win in April at the Rose Bowl, but fell short by one goal.

Jenny Callan, a prolific scorer for the team, has been the most versatile of the young athletes, and was able to score the winning goal on a hard angle with just two minutes left to play against talented archrival Arcadia in a spring tournament game that looked to be headed to overtime. The Los Tigres team members are from the West San Gabriel Valley, with most girls from South Pasadena, a few from San Marino, one from Alhambra and one from Pasadena. The team had been tied with Glendale for first place in the YDP season, having won two games and tying one, heading into this week’s finale, but Glendale broke an unsportsmanlike conduct rule by beating a Pasadena soccer team by a margin of more than five goals. The penalty costs Glendale a point, leaving the door wide open for Los Tigres to capture the championship.
