PASADENA (CNS) – Television chef Paula Deen was named grand marshal
today of the 2011 Rose Parade.
Deen hosts a pair of shows on The Food Network — “Paula’s Home
Cooking’ and “Paula’s Best Dishes.’ She will lead the Jan. 1 parade, which
is themed “Building Dreams, Friendships & Memories.’
“I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of such a
special American tradition that brings such joy to so many every year,’ Deen
said. “In my house, the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game have always been a
grand tradition for ringing in the New Year. To serve as grand marshal is a
dream come true and I look forward to sharing the celebration with all of the
fans and viewers worldwide.’
The Georgia native is known for her down-home personality and Southern
cooking. She began her career by creating a meal-delivery service in Savannah,
Ga., then cooked at a Best Western hotel before opening her first restaurant,
The Lady and Sons, in Savannah.
Her cookbook “The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook’ was
published in 1997, and she later introduced a bi-monthly magazine titled
“Cooking with Paula Deen.’
